OOTD: Howl

I'm back again for a quick OOTD. Let's do this!

Jacket: Ashley Stewart
Top: ASOS Curve
Skirt: Simply Be
Shoes: Torrid

I feel like this one's got a pretty similar vibe to yesterday's outfit, just with more awesome wolf top! Sometimes that happens, though, and I'll string together a few outfits in a row with a similar tone. Ah, well.

I've pretty much talked about all of the items in this OOTD at some point here on the blog, with the exception of the howling wolf top, which is new. I picked it up during the Cyber Monday sale at ASOS Curve, along with a few other great tops and a belt (I'm sure I'll get to those soon enough). It's pretty excellent, eh?

I feel like this look could work with any of the jackets I have, but I decided to go with this one just because I actually probably wear it the least out of all of them. That's a shame, because it's totally awesome. I've seen this jacket on so many of the TV shows my wife and I watch, and it seems to always be worn by my favorite characters, ha!

Mrs. Spookshow and I are heading to the hospital this evening to take a tour of the baby ward and get all our plans in order. It occurs to me that I haven't talked about that much here on the blog recently, but Mrs. Spookshow is at the eight month mark, and everything is looking fine. The expected due date is January 19th, which is sure approaching quickly. Wow.

I've got so many plans for new essays and such here on the blog, but just haven't managed to sit down and write them yet. I hope I will soon.

Anyhow, that's really all I have to say for this one, as I'm mostly letting the photos do the work, ha. I'll be back soon I'm sure with yet another exciting update! See you then!

OOTD: Awry

Back on track with another new OOTD post! I've actually still got a previous one in the queue for later bu for now it's getting leapfrogged for the outfit I'm wearing right now. Let's do this!

Overshirt: ASOS Curve
Top: Forever 21+
Skirt: Target
Tights: We Love Colors
Shoes: Torrid

This outfit just sort of came together through happenstance. I've got plans to hang out with a friend today, which is definitely cause for diving in the closet to find some cool threads. I actually did a few coin flips to arrive at this skirt, first to decide if I would wear a skirt or dress, then to decide between two skirts ...

I kinda love this skirt. I picked it up from Target.com a few weeks ago as part of their Labworks collection. The whole range was pretty awesome, and to be honest I bought nearly all of it, haha. I believe the tag line was "Effortless edge" or something like that ... which is right up my street, clearly. Fun!

Seems every time I wear this sheer top I wind up putting red underneath it. I'm not sure what's up with that but it is what it is, haha. These tights kinda go a bit bright in the sunlight, but inside they actually match the red under the sheer top pretty closely. I was initially unsure of pairing the horizontal stripes with an asymmetrical hem, but I think it works in a quirky way.

I picked up these shoes a little bit ago from Torrid, and can I just say LOVE! As I've mentioned before on the blog, I sometimes struggle when it comes to wearing flats, as I just like the way I look and feel in heels a bit more, but these are just too awesome to neglect. I've been wearing then a lot since I got them, even though this is the first appearance on the blog.

I tried to mix up my posing and locations a bit more than usual this time. I'm not sure why, but I just felt it was getting a bit stale. To be completely honest, with the weather a bit nicer I feel I can get away with venturing into the sunlight for an extended photo shoot, so that's probably why I did that today. I really like how this particular shot turned out.

Anyhow, that's it for this one. Expect more very soon!

OOTD: Regen

I promised I'd be back with another OOTD soon, and here it is! Let's do this..

Necklace: Domino Dollhouse
Top: Ashley Stewart
Skirt: Simply Be
Boots: Payless

I was going for something casual and comfortable here, and I think it came out pretty well. I wore this outfit on a much needed day off, a day with only a few errands to run where I could mostly just lounge about the house and regenerate after the craziness that was my life in September / October.

I've wanted a high low skirt for a while now, but had never really found the right one for me. In the past I haven't really loved skirts of this length on myself (I tend to prefer short skirts, ha), and here was the first time I felt like I was really rocking this length. There's just something about the high low skirt that I find so awesome, it's just such a cool look! This color red is really quite stunning, as well. Yay!

I'm kinda in love with this top, as well. I don't know what it is, but it seems  that I REALLY love shoulder details on clothing, so I just had to have this top when I saw it. If I can digress for just a moment: thinking about it, several of the other men in dresses bloggers that I talk to often express concern over their shoulders and how they fit proportionally with clothing marketed towards women. I feel there's a tendency with men wearing dresses to want to layer something like a jacket or cardigan to try to balance out the shoulder area or perhaps just draw attention away from them, and to be honest I'm not entirely innocent of this kind of thinking myself (although there is a little voice in my head that lectures me about body acceptance / positivity EVERY time I put on a jacket-shaped security blanket, heh). It's interesting then that I seem to be drawn towards shoulder details on dresses and tops, because that seems to be in direct juxtaposition to this. Curious...

Getting back on topic, I do love this top! However, prior to this outfit I had had some difficulty finding the right combination for it. I'm really looking forward to trying it with some more of my skirts and such.

These boots are pretty excellent. I've got fairly similar boots in black and in red, so I felt it was time to get a grey pair as well. They're comfortable and pretty cool, and a lot of times in the fall & winter I'll pair this style of boots with a pair of shorts & tights for a quick, casual outfit. As a funny side note, a guy at work commented about these boots being cool and called them my "Aragorn shoes". Haha!

So I've actually got a personal experience to recount regarding this particular outfit. To be honest, not much of note usually happens when I go out dressed like this in my daily life, but occasionally ...

The day I wore this, my wife and I went to Sally's Beauty to pick up some hair bleach. While we were checking out, I couldn't help but notice the guy behind me pointing me out to his wife and saying something. Okay, nothing out of the ordinary really, because I do tend to draw attention in public ... and while that's not at all what I go for or want, I realize that I do stand out in a crowd, so okay. However, he then takes out his cell phone and tries several times, very poorly, to take a stealthy photograph of me. Okay, also not the first time I've noticed people do this, and again it doesn't really bother me that much (I just hope they get me from a good angle, to be honest, haha). Mrs. Spookshow also notices, and pokes me and points it out, but I just shrug and laugh.

And then she turns to him and says, "You know, if you want a picture you could just ask."

....Haha. The guy just kinda blinked for a few seconds ... a bit stunned at the bluntness (as was I), and then he says, "So ... um .... can I get a picture?" I'm a good sport, so I turned and struck a pose for him, he snapped it, and said, "Uhh ... thanks." Mrs. Spookshow and I had a laugh as we finished up checking out and left. I do wonder why he wanted a picture, outside of perhaps just the novelty of seeing a boy in a skirt? Part of me thinks that it probably wasn't for any sort of good reason, but whatever.

I've said it before here, and I'll say it again, I would much prefer if my sartorial choices weren't anything out of the ordinary. I don't do this for attention, I do it because it's what I enjoy and fashion is one of the many ways that I like to express myself. I'd prefer to be able to go through my life and have people treat me and react to me no differently than they would if I was just wearing the clothing currently marketed to guys, but I'm realistic enough to understand that this isn't the reality I live in now, and that's okay too. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore compliments on my style (haha), I just mean to say that I wish it wasn't a big deal that I'm wearing a dress, you know?

But I know that I stand out from the crowd, and in the same (paradoxical) breath ... I wouldn't have it any other way.

OOTD: Cult Classic Remix

This one is from a few weeks ago (sorry for the delay!) ... so let's just get into it, eh?

Jacket: Forever 21+
Shirt: eBay
Skirt: Target
Tights: Levante
Shoes: Payless

As the title implies, this is a remix of a previous look from the blog. A casual tee and skirt look is something I wear pretty often, and don't usually feel is awesome enough to post here on the blog. Here's how I wore this tee and skirt (in a different color) back in February ...

It's interesting to note that I'm actually wearing the same skirt and boots, just in different colors.

I feel there's an interesting dynamic between the previous photo and this current look, as it really shows how my personal style has evolved over the year. I feel pretty good about where I'm at sartorially.

I decided to take a face shot to post here, as I recently bought a few different color rings for my septum so that I can color coordinate with my looks. It's something that I don't feel comes across in the full body outfit shots, but it reads in real life, so I wanted to share it here. Fun!

Speaking of real life, a few readers recently requested some shots of me "out and about", so here that is. I suppose sometimes seeing is believing, because yes I do actually wear all of these looks out in my daily life. I'll try to snap more pics out in the wild, ha.

Ending it with an obligatory tights / shoes shot. I've really been wanting a pair of tights like this, but it seems so hard to find plus size tights in fun patterns. Levante makes these, and they are pretty awesome, but a little pricey, honestly. I love these boots! I picked these up around this time last year at Payless after having bought a black pair as well. The red ones are pretty amazing, and I like to wear them when I really want to add some punch to an outfit. Yay for red shoes, haha.

So that's all for this one. I'm playing a bit of catch up here with outfit photos ... so look for another post very, very soon!
