07/19/12 OOTD: Murder Remix

I'm havin' flashbacks to February with this steady stream of OOTD posts, how about ya'll? I promised a skirt for my next OOTD, but even I didn't think it'd be so soon. Let's get to it.

Necklace: Domino Dollhouse
Top: Marshalls
Shoes: Andres Machado

Every now and then when I look back through the OOTDs I've posted, I'll find myself thinking, "I just could have done better with that." This skirt in particular is one such instance. I originally wore this one back in February here, and I was just never completely happy with it. To be fair, though, it was a bit of a filler outfit if I can be honest. I wore that outfit when we were driving back from our trip to Tampa to see Penn & Teller, and I had wore some of my best looks to date on that weekend (here and here, respectively), and sometimes even my creativity can feel a bit sapped.

I've been a bit light on OOTDs over the past few months, so I've managed to accumulate a lot of new items to show. A lot of said garments are tops, however, so there's going to be a bit of remixing involved when it comes to bottoms.

I've shown this necklace before, but I wanted to get another shot of it here. You can also sorta see the dolman sleeves on this top .. almost. Ah, well.

Honestly, this is kind of a remix of a remix, anyhow, as this skirt was actually one of my first looks on Flickr a while ago. Brace yourself, here comes a blast from the past, ha ..

It's interesting to see how my style has changed over time, but let's get this back on track, hmm?

This look really just came together by happenstance today. I had to mow the lawn today, and after such a grueling task here in the hot summer I like to relax a bit in our jacuzzi tub. I was feeling really nice after that and decided that I just needed to wear something stylish for the rest of the day. I'm pretty much just chilling on the computer and replying to comments & messages, but hey. I'll at least look nice for Mrs. Spookshow when she gets home, ha!

Speaking of Mrs. Spookshow, I'd just like to remind everyone that she does have a rockin' Etsy store you should check out! With a baby on the way we can absolutely use any funds we can get, so now's a great time to pick up an item you've had your eye on there. She made this skirt for me, and I've always really liked it. She does take commissions as well, so if you'd like something custom (hey, she could probably even make you one of these skirts, if you wanted it) go ahead and give her a shout.

Here's a closer shot of the shoes. I don't really wear them as much as I thought I would when I bought them, but sometimes it's just an awesome shiny red flats day, ha!

Anyhow, that's it for this one. Keep on rockin', you lovely folks!

07/18/12 OOTD: Wild

I'm back again with another leggings look. I wore this outfit yesterday, but didn't have a chance to post it until today. It occurs to me that I haven't posted an OOTD featuring a skirt since April, but rest assured that I will be remedying that soon! Let's do this.

Necklace: Evans
Top: Torrid
Leggings: Torrid
Shoes: Payless

So, even though I like this look, I've got some issues with these garments after wearing them all day yesterday. The top is a bit too big for me, as they only had a 3x in stock when I purchased it. I knew it would probably be too big, but I couldn't resist anyways, as the sleeves reminded me of my favorite dress. I was really unsure about the neckline, as it's clearly meant for serious boobage, but I think it comes off as a very deep V on me, which is okay. It's not something I've worn before, though I've seen a lot of rocker guys do it, so perhaps it works? I mostly wore it so I could wear this necklace...

A few weeks ago, I made an order from Evans. I had found some really great dresses, and decided to throw this necklace in with them because I liked it. Unfortunately, when my order arrived, it was only the necklace, because it turns out the two dresses were out of stock in my size. I'm still kinda bummed about that, but ah well.

I had a quite busy day yesterday, as my parents were visiting. Last Christmas we had gotten my dad a gift certificate for the local gun store, and to this point he hadn't had a chance to use it, so it was off to the gun store. Now, this place is quite a classy establishment anyhow, but it's still a gun store in the south, right? I've had people comment here that they could never wear the things I do in their part of the world for fear of being lynched. Well, I rocked this outfit surrounded by good ole boys in a gun store in Florida, and I'm here to tell you that I had no problems. I think a lot of the fear we men in skirts feel is self-inflicted, which is unfortunate. That being said, I do recommend being proactive with your safety, much in the way I suspect many women would be. I tend to avoid dark or deserted areas if I'm alone, and I always carry a can of pepper spray in my bag. You just never know, so be safe! That being said, don't let fear stop you from being yourself, just exercise good judgement. As of yet, I've not had any negative encounters in the wild.

We also went out to eat and to a local Target store. Dinner was good, and Target was actually kinda boring. I did not find any cool clothes or good deals on movies. Oh well.

I really love the look of these leggings. I'm all about tribal patterns. Unfortunately, the fabric these leggings are made from is actually quite itchy. I decided to wear a pair of tights underneath to help mitigate that, but it didn't help as much as I had hoped. I also seem to be a bit between sizes in Torrid leggings, as my other tribal pair is a 1x and is just a little bit small, while these are a 2x and are a little bit big. It's too bad these leggings have some issues, because I think they could be really cool. I'll still keep them, but I probably won't wear them as much as I'd like to.

Anyhow, that was my OOTD yesterday. I've been on a bit of a leggings / shorts trend lately, but I'll be rockin' a skirt in the next one, ha. See you for that soon!

07/17/12 OOTD: Slash

In the last OOTD (which, yes, I know was too long ago) I talked about my struggles with fashion in the summer here in Florida. Since that time, I've managed to put together a few outfits that I feel work well and are comfortable enough for the hot days here, but most of the looks just haven't felt special enough to warrant posting an OOTD here. I think I've got a pretty good one here, though.

While I've got your attention, however, there's something I'd like to announce officially here on the blog. A lot has been going on recently in my life, but the most notable bit of Spookshow related news is .... we're having a baby!

I'll give you a moment for that one, ha.

Seriously though, Mrs. Spookshow is pregnant. Thirteen weeks pregnant, to be exact. This was by design and we are very excited. On one hand, it's really strange to be venturing into this next phase of life, but I'm looking forward to it. Dads in dresses ... yeah that's probably gonna be a new post here eventually, ha.

Anyhow, with that out of the way, let's get to the OOTD, hmm?

Sunglasses: Domino Dollhouse
Necklace: Domino Dollhouse
Jacket: Domino Dollhouse (pictured later)
Top: Ashley Stewart
Leggings: Mrs. Spookshow's drawer, ha
Shoes: Madden Girl

I normally like to lead with a more "plain" pose, but I liked this picture too much not to just wade in with it. Your eyes do not deceive you, I'm rockin' some orange hairs!

With regards to the hair, it started when I got lazy for a week or so and didn't shave. I remarked to Mrs. Spookshow that it would be cool to have a mohawk, and that I missed having hair to dye all sorts of colors. She replied, "Or you could grow a lesbian." Before you get offended, let me explain. We both really loved Kara Laricks from Fashion Star, both her designs and her personal look. Mrs. Spookshow had said when we watched it that she wished she could cut her hair like that, but everyone would think she is a lesbian. Thus, it became named "the lesbian" haircut. Anyhow, if Mrs. Spookshow won't rock it, I certainly will. We cut and dyed it yesterday, and I decided to start with napalm orange haircolor, as I felt orange would actually be either complimentary or contrasting with the colors I tend to wear (black, red, purple, blue). We shall see.

On that note (I promise we'll get back to the OOTD soon, guys), Mrs. Spookshow often jokes that I must be a lesbian in a man's body. Now, I've actually heard a lot of dudes claim that, but I think I've got a bit more cred than they do in this department, ha. I prefer to think of myself as just a straight guy who doesn't give a damn what people think of him, but hey. The reason I've digressed here, anyways, is because I've been following Fuck Yeah, Hard Femme! on Tumblr, and I feel it's really influenced this outfit. Am I hard femme? Yeah, I think so.

This top, despite having an awesome print, is really outside of my usual comfort zone. Specifically, I can't remember the last time I ever wore anything sleeveless. I'm sure a lot of the plus size readers here can relate; it's just not a part of my body I've ever been comfortable with. I believe I also mentioned in my last OOTD, though, that I'm very much a proponent of body acceptance, so I figured it was time to stop covering up my arms just because they are fat...

... which led to me deciding to have some fun here, ha! As I look at these pictures, I'm honestly not too sure what I was so caught up about. Yep, I'm not exactly packing guns, but my arms are still fat in sleeves, so whatever. Sadly, I wish I had some awesome tattoos to be showing off here, but it's just something I haven't gotten into (yet?).

Oh man, this is turning into a super long post. If you've stuck around this long, I applaud you. Lately I have wanted to try to capture more angles (even the less flattering ones) in the interest of promoting body acceptance along with fashion freedom. With that in mind, here's a totally sweet shot of my backside. Sorry ladies, I am taken, ha!

Totally crappy weather forced me to take these pictures inside for better lighting, which is unfortunate but it's better than trying to photograph black clothing on a dreary day. I think it led me to want to have some fun with poses. This is my Graham Elliot (from MasterChef) pose, ha! Incidentally, if you are here reading this because you were googling Graham Elliot, hello! Probably not what you were expecting, but I hope you'll have a look around anyways.

I know it's summer and all, but I really thought this jacket would look amazing with this outfit. I'll definitely be rockin' the hell out of this once the weather here starts to cool down.

Someone requested that I show off my shoes with each OOTD, and while I'm sure I've posted pictures of these before, here you go!

Wow, okay apologies for this one being so long. I'll just say I'm really diggin' this outfit, and I think I may have found a summer style that I feel good about. Keep on rockin', folks!
